I was just wondering. My best friend's fetus died at 8 weeks and had a missed miscarriage. She had a D %26amp; C and waiting for genetic testing result. How long to wait? What will it tell you? THANKS!!
Have anyone had a D %26amp; C (miscarriage) and get a Genetic analysis on the fetus? How long wait for the result?
The doctors gave me the result of the test at by post opp. appointment which was two weeks after my D %26amp; C.
Reply:The D%26amp;C basically cleans out the uterus if the body is not ridding itself of the products of conception naturally. Having genetic testing done is a way to help determine the reason for the miscarriage, although it's not always conclusive. The test results usually return in about 10-14 days, depending on whether or not the specimen had to be sent to another lab after the initial testing. Hopefully it will be helpful for her!
Reply:I haven't but I think every woman who has a D%26amp;C should automatically get a genetic analysis to determine cause. Otherwise, what is the point of the risk of uterine damage?
Typically, the wait is about 10 days, but technology changes, so I can't say for certain.
