It depends on the methodology of the test. With some tests there are interfering factors. HIV tests that are preliminary positive or suspicious are usually repeated using a confirmatory method to make sure that they are truly positive. There are quite a few times that a screen test will look funny or suspicious but will be completely negative with a back up method. Scares the bejezus out of you tho.
