Can you have a test done to see if you need a c-section?

im sure there is to see if your pelvis or something is to small? my mums pelvis(think it was that) was too small and she had to have 3 c-sections but the first time she was trying to give birth was in the 70's so they didnt know at first and then they new after an emergency c-section she was to small to give birth naturaly. do they have a way to see this now or do you still have to wait? thanx

Can you have a test done to see if you need a c-section?
There is no way to know before going though with labor whether or not a baby will fit.

The Pelvis is a jointed bone, and is flexible during labor to allow a baby to pass, and the babys head is also flexible allowing for molding so it can pass...what is known as the cone head.

At one time (and some still do) doctors thought that a womans shoe size was in conjunction with her pelvis...they also used to take pelvemity readings to try to estimate if a baby will fit...We know better or should know better now.

That like I said that both the baby and pelvis allow for room to deliver a baby...

Being in a squatting psoition also helps as it allows to opening of your pelvis to open upto 33% bigger...that end up being about 1 inch bigger..versus lying on your back which actually collapses the pelvic opening.

Usually true CPD, cephalopelvic disproportion (baby too big or pelvis too small or both) is very rare, occuring only in women who have had very poor nutrition and have Rickets or that have fractured their pelvis in an accident. Dr.'s use CPD as a "catch all" reason when they really don't know why a baby wasn't born vaginally.

I say try for a normal vaginal birth as your risks of serious complications are lower, than with having major abdominal surgery for what may or may not be an issue!
Reply:There is no test that I know of.

I found out after being in labor with my oldest son for twelve hours (induced at the hospital) that I would need a c-section

even though the doctor and I knew he was going to be big because I had gained fifty pounds during the pregnancy and whatever other ways the doctor can tell that he was big.

I had a scheduled c-section for my second and third son

I also gained fifty pounds with each of these pregnancies.

I am currently 27 weeks pregnant and going to have my last

scheduled c-section in May. All I know for sure is that I have big babies and I have to have c-sections.
Reply:i wish someone know the answer because i am concern for myself if i can deliver naturally dunno if height and weight plays a role because i am only 4'10 ft 18 weeks preggy and weighing 110.
Reply:they wont be able to tell u if u need a c section untill u r in active labor.. but good luck
Reply:They used to use a set of measurements, and they were usually wrong. So many women in the past were forced into c-sections because of it. Pelvises were designed to open and move during labor. That is why it is recommended that you move around during labor to find what is comfortable. You can move the baby out faster that way.
Reply:it will depend on the size of your baby and back then once you had 1 c-section you wernt allowed to try to give birth naturally because the pushing could tear your uterus
Reply:No, not that I know of. Your doctor will determine that. No test needed.
