How difficult is AP Physics C: Mechanics? Is the AP Test very difficult?

I am considering taking AP Physics C: Mechanics my senior year, because I am planning on majoring in Engineering. I was just wondering if anyone who has taken the class already describe what it is like. If I do take this course the advantage I will have is that I will be done with Calculus AB and BC. Will this help me in anyway? The only problem is that when I took regular physics, it sometimes took me forever to figure out what equation to apply to that specific problem, but once I got the math problem written down, I could solve the math with easily. This class looks interesting but I don't want to enroll in a class where I could end up failing. However, I always study and always do my homework, and I always pay attention in class. Finally, how long did you have to study for the AP Exam? Thanks for any info you can give me, I just wanted to know how other people felt about the class.

Taking Physics C is a good idea especially if you are going to be a physics major. I'm actually taking the class right now, and it's one of the hardest classes at high school! I'm also taking Calc BC at the same time, and compared to physics, calc is a breeze. Physics C actually has very little calculus. Most of it is simple arithmetic. However, knowing how to derive and intergrate might help out a bit. Your knowlege of calc can be very limited, and you will still be able to do ok in the class. I'm sure you won't end up failing the class. Physics is a difficult class in general. Typically, everyone fails the quizzes and the tests, but we have a generous teacher who curves our grades and gives us plenty of extra credit. If you're going to enroll in the class, just be ready to fail the tests. I've made a D and a couple of C's on the quizzes, and I'm still standing. And I just recently failed a test today! =D

I've heard that the AP test is difficult if you're taking Mechanics and E%26amp;M. Just mechanics alone isn't bad. I took the Physics B test last year, and I understood only half (or even less than half) of the material, and I still made a 4. I've heard that you only need a 50% on the AP exam to make a 5. There's actually no real way you can study for the AP exam. You can buy a Princeton Review book if those help you. I barely studied because I had other tests going on at the time, and I was drained by the time the test came around.

You'll be fine though! Don't worry! =)
Reply:if ur done with cal bc, you should be fine. im in IB III which is like the same thing, as long as you got a good foundation in the lower physics levels and can easily manipulate formulas you will do well, not to mention physics C is quite nice on ur transcript.
Reply:I heard if you slack off you will end up with a failing grade but if you work hard you will probably pass with an A or B. I'm taking AP physics C mechanics next year also. AP Physics Electricity and magnetism is the harder one. Most people who pay attention in class, study the concepts and complete homework do well with scores of at least 4 or 5 on the exam. Start reviewing older concepts from the beginning of the year a few weeks in advance of the exam. Put about a few hours on the weekends (6) before exam and a few hours during the week (6-8). Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!
